‘రత్న ప్రింటింగ్ వర్క్స్’ ప్రస్థానం 1982లో స్క్రీన్ ప్రింటింగ్‌తో ప్రారంభమైంది. గ్రాడ్యుయేషన్ పూర్తయిన వెంటనే ప్రింటింగ్ రంగంలో నైపుణ్యం సాధించాలనే లక్ష్యంతో శ్రీ ముత్యాల రామారావు చెన్నై వెళ్లి స్క్రీన్ ప్రింటింగ్‌లో శిక్షణ పొందారు. అక్కడ ప్రముఖ సంస్థలైన *‘రైజింగ్ స్క్రీన్స్’, ‘కోయా స్క్రీన్స్’* లో కొంతకాలం పనిచేసి, ఆ రంగంలోని సాంకేతిక పరిజ్ఞానాన్ని, ప్రాక్టికల్ అనుభవాన్ని సంపాదించారు.

శిక్షణ అనంతరం పాలకొల్లు సమీపంలోని తన స్వగ్రామమైన గొల్లవానిచెరువులో తన స్వగృహం నుంచే స్క్రీన్ ప్రింటింగ్ కార్యకలాపాలను ప్రారంభించారు.

1983లో ‘రత్న ప్రింటింగ్ వర్క్స్’ పేరుతో పాలకొల్లులో పూర్తిస్థాయి లెటర్ ప్రెస్ ప్రింటింగ్ యూనిట్‌ను స్థాపించి, ప్రింటింగ్ మార్కెట్‌లో అడుగుపెట్టారు.

నాణ్యతతో కూడిన పని, కష్టపడి పనిచేసే నిబద్ధత, ఖాతాదారులతో స్నేహపూర్వక సంబంధాలు - ఈ విలువల కారణంగా రత్న ప్రింటింగ్ వర్క్స్ అతి తక్కువ సమయంలోనే పాలకొల్లు పట్టణంలోనే కాకుండా పరిసర ప్రాంతాల్లోనూ మంచి పేరు సంపాదించింది. శ్రీ రామారావు విద్య, సాంకేతిక అనుభవం సంస్థ అభివృద్ధికి ఎంతో తోడ్పడ్డాయి.

సాంకేతిక పరిణామాలను ఎప్పటికప్పుడు అందిపుచ్చుకోవాలనే దృక్పథంతో 1992లో కొంతమంది మిత్రులతో కలిసి అప్పటికి ఆధునిక సాంకేతికతగా ఉన్న *డెస్క్‌ టాప్ పబ్లిషింగ్ (DTP)* తో కూడిన ఆఫ్‌సెట్ ప్రింటింగ్ యూనిట్‌ను ప్రారంభించారు.

లెటర్ ప్రెస్‌లోని అనేక పరిమితులను అధిగమిస్తూ మెరుగైన నాణ్యతను అందించగలిగిన ఆఫ్‌సెట్ ప్రింటింగ్ ద్వారా ‘రత్న ఆఫ్‌సెట్ ప్రింటర్స్’ తనకంటూ ప్రత్యేక గుర్తింపును సంపాదించుకుంది. ఈ ప్రాంతంలో ప్రారంభమైన తొలి కంప్యూటరైజ్డ్ ప్రింటింగ్ యూనిట్ కావడం ఈ సంస్థ ప్రస్థానంలో మరో ముఖ్యమైన మైలురాయి.

ప్రింటింగ్ రంగంలో మరింత ఆధునిక సాంకేతిక పరిజ్ఞానాన్ని, విస్తృత అనుభవాన్ని సంపాదించాలనే ఉద్దేశ్యంతో 1997లో శ్రీ రామారావు విజయవాడకు వెళ్లారు. అక్కడి ప్రముఖ ప్రింటింగ్ సంస్థ *‘భావన ఆఫ్‌సెట్ ప్రింటర్స్’* లో జనరల్ మేనేజర్‌గా బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించారు.

ఆ రోజుల్లో మల్టీకలర్ ప్రింటింగ్ ప్రధానంగా సింగిల్ కలర్ మెషిన్లతో నిర్వహించబడుతున్న సమయంలో, భావన ఆఫ్‌సెట్ ప్రింటర్స్‌ లో ‘Adast Dominant’ 2-Color Printing Machine‌ను తొలిసారిగా ఏర్పాటు చేయడం జరిగింది.

ప్రింటింగ్ రంగంతో పాటు రచనా వ్యాసంగం, కంప్యూటర్ సాంకేతికతపై ఉన్న ఆసక్తితో, అప్పుడప్పుడే ప్రజల్లోకి వస్తున్న కంప్యూటర్లను సామాన్య ప్రజలకు సైతం సులభంగా పరిచయం చేయాలనే సంకల్పంతో శ్రీ రామారావు తెలుగులో ‘కంప్యూటర్ విజ్ఞానం’ అనే మాసపత్రికను ప్రారంభించారు.

కంప్యూటర్లకు సంబంధించిన విషయాలను సరళమైన తెలుగులో, అందరికీ అర్థమయ్యే విధంగా అందించిన ఈ పత్రిక అనేకమందికి మార్గదర్శకంగా నిలిచింది. ఒక దశలో 18,000 కాపీల సర్క్యులేషన్‌కు చేరుకోవడంతో పాటు, విదేశాల్లోనూ చందాదారులను సంపాదించుకోవడం విశేషం.

పత్రిక ప్రచురణకు ఎక్కువ సమయం కేటాయించాల్సిన అవసరం ఏర్పడటంతో భావన ఆఫ్‌సెట్ ప్రింటర్స్‌ లోని బాధ్యతల నుంచి వైదొలగి, కొంతకాలం పూర్తిస్థాయిలో ‘కంప్యూటర్ విజ్ఞానం’ పత్రిక కోసం తన సమయాన్ని కేటాయించారు.

తదుపరి కాలంలో విజయవాడలోని మరో ప్రముఖ సంస్థ *‘శ్రీలేఖ పవర్ ప్రింటర్స్’* లో జనరల్ మేనేజర్‌గా బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టారు. ప్రింటింగ్ ప్రెస్‌లోని జాబ్ వర్క్స్ నిర్వహణ, కస్టమర్ డేటా తయారీ, నిర్వహణ వంటి అవసరాలకు ప్రత్యేక కంప్యూటర్ సాఫ్ట్‌ వేర్‌ను అభివృద్ధి చేయించి, ప్రింటింగ్ కార్యకలాపాలను మరింత సమర్థవంతంగా నిర్వహించడంలో కంప్యూటర్ల వినియోగానికి శ్రీకారం చుట్టారు. ఖాతాదారులకు అవసరమైన సమాచారాన్ని ఎప్పటికప్పుడు అందించడంలోనూ ఈ విధానం ఎంతో ఉపయోగపడింది.

వ్యాపారాన్ని కేవలం వ్యాపారంగా కాకుండా ఒక సామాజిక బాధ్యతగా కూడా చూడాలనే ఆలోచనతో, గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతాల నుంచి పట్టణాలకు పెరుగుతున్న వలసల కారణంగా నగరాలపై పెరుగుతున్న ఒత్తిడిని తగ్గించడంలో తన వంతు పాత్ర పోషించాలనే ఉద్దేశంతో శ్రీ రామారావు ఒక ముఖ్యమైన నిర్ణయం తీసుకున్నారు.

నాలుగు దశాబ్దాల క్రితం ఎక్కడైతే తన వ్యాపార ప్రస్థానాన్ని ప్రారంభించారో, అదే స్వగ్రామమైన గొల్లవానిచెరువుకు తిరిగి వచ్చారు.

ఆధునిక సాంకేతికత అందుబాటులో ఉన్న నేటి పరిస్థితులను ఉపయోగించుకుని, మారుమూల గ్రామం నుంచే వ్యాపార కార్యకలాపాలను కొనసాగించేలా ఏర్పాట్లు చేసుకున్నారు. 2019లో తన కంప్యూటర్లు, ఇతర అవసరమైన సామగ్రితో స్వగ్రామానికి చేరుకున్న ఆయన, అక్కడి నుంచే తన కార్యకలాపాలను కొనసాగిస్తున్నారు. భౌగోళిక దూరం సేవలకు అడ్డంకి కాకుండా, ఇతర పట్టణాలు మరియు ఇతర రాష్ట్రాల్లోని ఖాతాదారులకు సైతం నాణ్యమైన సేవలను అందిస్తూ ముందుకు సాగుతున్నారు.

The journey of ‘Ratna Printing Works’ began in 1982 with Screen Printing. Immediately after completing his graduation, Sri Mutyala Ramarao went to Chennai with the objective of gaining professional expertise in the printing field. He underwent training in screen printing and subsequently worked for some time with reputed organizations such as ‘Rising Screens’ and ‘Koya Screens’, gaining valuable technical knowledge and practical experience.

After completing his training, he returned to his native village Gollavanicheruvu, near Palakollu and started screen printing operations from his own home.

In 1983, he established a full-fledged Letterpress Printing Unit in Palakollu under the name ‘Ratna Printing Works’, marking his formal entry into the printing market.

Quality workmanship, a strong commitment to hard work, and friendly relationships with customers helped Ratna Printing Works earn a good reputation within a very short period, not only in Palakollu but also in the surrounding areas. Sri Ramarao’s education and technical experience played a significant role in the growth of the organization.

With a strong desire to keep pace with technological advancements, in 1992, together with a few friends, he established an Offset Printing Unit equipped with Desktop Publishing (DTP), which was considered advanced technology at the time.

Offset printing helped overcome many of the limitations of letterpress printing while delivering improved quality. As a result, ‘Ratna Offset Printers’ established its own identity in the region. Being the first computerized printing unit in the area was another important milestone in the organization’s journey.

With the objective of gaining greater exposure to advanced printing technologies and broader professional experience, Sri Ramarao moved to Vijayawada in 1997 and joined the reputed printing organization ‘Bhavana Offset Printers’ as its General Manager.

At a time when multicolour printing was predominantly carried out using single-colour machines, an ‘Adast Dominant’ 2-Color Printing Machine was introduced at Bhavana Offset Printers.

Alongside his involvement in the printing industry, Sri Ramarao had a keen interest in writing and computer technology. With a vision of introducing the emerging world of computers to the common people in a simple and accessible manner, he launched the Telugu monthly magazine ‘Computer Vignanam’ along with his friend Sri P.B. Srinivas.

By presenting computer-related subjects in simple Telugu that could be easily understood by everyone, the magazine became a useful guide for many readers. At one stage, it reached a circulation of 18,000 copies and also gained subscribers from overseas.

As publishing the magazine required considerable time and commitment, he stepped away from his responsibilities at Bhavana Offset Printers and devoted himself full-time to ‘Computer Vignanam’ for a period.

Later, he took charge as General Manager of another prominent Vijayawada-based organization, ‘Srilekha Power Printers’.

To meet the requirements of job-work management, customer data preparation and maintenance, specialized computer software was developed and introduced. This marked an important step towards using computers to manage printing operations more efficiently and to provide customers with the information they needed in a timely manner.

Viewing business not merely as a commercial activity but also from a social perspective, Sri Ramarao took an important decision with the intention of contributing in his own way towards reducing the growing pressure on cities caused by migration from rural areas.

He returned to the same native village, Gollavanicheruvu, where he had started his business journey four decades earlier.

Taking advantage of the modern technology available today, he made arrangements to continue his business operations from this remote village. In 2019, he returned to his native village with his computers and other essential equipment and has continued his operations from there.

Geographical distance has never been allowed to become a barrier to service. Today, customers from other towns and even other states continue to receive quality printing services from Ratna Printing Works, supported by modern technology.
